T-shirt: Everlane | Skirt: Lux, via clothing swap | Necklace: Gift from my mom from a trip out west
When searching for sustainable fashion, I’ll look at US-made pieces in addition to fair trade options. While I’m not going to pretend that slave labor doesn’t exist in the U.S., I like to think that our laws make it a bit harder for manufacturers to mistreat their workers.
Even better, though, is when the manufacturers and designers themselves focus on a transparent process for their clothing. My friend Mandy recently told me about Everlane, a California-based company that touts “Radical Transparency” as new way to do fashion. The company prides itself on being open about its costs, its manufacturing process, and even the sizes of its models.
I decided to try an Everlane tee after several of my t-shirts succumbed to the stains and hard-wearing of motherhood. So far, I like the drape and sturdy feel of the shirt. I ordered a Large based on their size chart, but I may try ordering down a size next time. I paired the tee with a skirt on this occasion because I was headed to a party, but I think my favorite way to wear it will be with jeans.
What do you think about Everlane and their focus on transparency? I’d love to hear about your favorite way to wear sustainable style. Leave a link in the comments or hashtag an Instagram or Twitter pic with #fairfashionfri.
