Shopping ethically can feel overwhelming at times. Adapting my habits and budget for an ethical wardrobe is a great first step, but what about the rest of my daily life? (My husband and I might have had a conversation about ethical toilet brushes the other day….)
I hadn’t given much thought to fair trade beauty products until I read beauty posts from fellow fair trade blogs One Fair Day and Let’s Be Fair. While I’m not ready to dive into a whole new beauty routine, I want to start learning about my options with sustainable beauty.
Here are a few fair beauty picks I found while searching for a casual spring look:
1. Alaffia Rooibos and Shea Butter Antioxidant Face Cream
Doesn’t that sound decadent? Reviewers say the cream is lightweight, which makes it a good match for the higher humidity levels of spring.
2. Au Naturale Powder Foundation
I like powder instead of liquid foundation when the weather gets warmer, and this made-in-the-USA, non-toxic formula sounds lovely.
3. ACURE Facial Cleansing Cream – Argan Oil + Mint
With Fair Trade Certified Olive Oil, Argan Oil, and Cocoa Butter, ACURE’s cleansing cream sounds like a refreshing and gentle way to end the day.
4. Josie Maran Mini GOGO Argan Mascara
I love seeing high end cosmetic lines use sustainable ingredients in their formulas. Josie Maran Cosmetics fairly source the argan oil in their products from women’s cooperatives in Morocco.
5. LUSH Latte Lip Tint
This subtle lip tint uses natural, healthy ingredients including vanilla, sugar, and fair trade coffee — a delicious way to try trendy peach lip color for spring!
I found myself pleasantly surprised at the affordability of many fair trade beauty products. Now that I’ve taken the time to explore some options, adding a bit more ethics to my cosmetics buying feels like an attainable goal.
