I don’t know about where you live, but here in Minnesota summer is getting hot, hot, HOT! Since I live in an apartment building in the middle of the city with just a single window air conditioning unit, dressing in comfortable and cool clothing (and consuming many, many more fudge pops than I care to let on) is a must!
Today I’d like to share THE ultimate no-fuss summer uniform featuring a lovely tank from one of my absolute favorite fair trade organizations, Mamafrica. More than just a clothing brand, Mamafrica is a community organization which provides education, healing arts, and economic opportunities for women in an area of Democratic Republic of Congo where the unemployment rate for women (many displaced by war) averages 85%. The vision of Mamafrica is to provide a holistic program that goes beyond employing women to create products, focusing on contributing to the community in a way that creates sustainable change and economic independence.
Mamafrica utilizes beautiful, bright, traditional African fabrics in their designs, preserving cultural heritage and creating local jobs! The fabric is sourced from a factory in Burundi that employs 1,500 people and grows their cotton locally in the countryside as well.
My Threads4Thought maxi and Sseko sandals are both huge summer staples in my wardrobe. I can wear them with everything (especially since I can switch out the color and style of my sandals so easily- many weeks I end up wearing them every day!).
