A few days ago I made a startling discovery about one of my childhood heroes.
Did you ever watch Kids Incorporated? It was a light-hearted show about kids who sang at a club called The Place. No, the premise didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but I loved that show. I watched it on The Disney Channel whenever I could.
My favorite character on the show was Stacy. She had the coolest hair — it was blond and curly, like mine, and she usually had it in this rad side ponytail (alas, my hair was too short for that). Sometimes her hair even was crimped.
Stacey wore lots of bangle bracelets, baggy shirts, and gargantuan earrings. As a 7-year-old, I saw her as the ultimate in style.
So, the other day, I found out that Stacy from Kids Incorporated now is Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas! I had no idea! I had seen Fergie, but my mind never made the connection, and I remained blissfully ignorant until I stumbled across Stacy/Fergie’s Wikipedia page. (Those of you who already knew this are laughing at me now.)
I couldn’t believe it. Ghetto-fabulous Fergie is the current form of my 80s hero?
You can see the resemblance, a little bit:
