Let’s talk about that mini-miracle of vacations: the weekend trip. I love weekend getaways. They’re such easy vacations to plan. Packing for the trip is a breeze. And if you forget to take out the trash or wash the dishes, things won’t smell dreadful by the time you get home.
Here in Middle Tennesse, we’re lucky enough to have several amazing trips within driving distance of Nashville. These weekend destination cities have tons of possibilities for family adventure and road trip fun. Check out my recommendations of things to do in Memphis, Chattanooga, and Atlanta over at L.A. Memphis
We took a whirlwind trip to Memphis this summer and had a blast. The zoo is one of the best family-friendly things to do in Memphis, and we loved learning about the city’s culture. Don’t miss the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel — it’s essential American history.

Chattanooga
Chattanooga is one of my favorite places to visit with kids. Downtown Chattanooga is pedestrian-friendly and packed with kid-friendly activities like the Tennessee Aquarium and the Creative Discovery Museum. There are plenty of outdoor activities in Chattanooga like kayaking and exploring caves, so there’s a bit of something for everyone.

Atlanta
When I was a kid growing up in Nashville, Atlanta was IT. I mean, it was THE COOLEST CITY, and I always looked forward to visiting. Atlanta has tons of unique activities, like the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-cola. And while I used to love spending the day at Six Flags, these days you’re more likely to find me plotting out all the Marvel filming locations.

Writing about all these locations made me want to visit them again. Good thing they are just a few hours away! What are your favorite weekend trips from Nashville?
