When I’m having a tough day, I bring out the red lipstick. If you see me wearing a bright lip color and I’m not at a party or on a date, there’s a good chance I didn’t want to get out of bed that morning. But I armored up with crimson lips and went out to face the day.
I’ve never been a big fan of cowboy boots. As a Nashville native, I tend to eschew cowboy hats and boots and all things country. But I found a pair of boots that gives me that face-the-day feeling I need sometimes.

I’m a reformed cheap shoe buyer. Instead of purchasing shoes on a whim as fashions change, I’ve been working towards buying well-made shoes that are worth extra care–timeless styles with a quality that lends itself to shoes being resoled, polished, and worn year after year.
These Bent Rail boots were handcrafted at one of the four U.S. factories run by Justin Boots. According to their tags, the boots were made by Stacie, Bill, and other workers at a factory in Cassville, Missouri. When I wear these boots, I feel confident and thankful to find fashion that supports careful craftsmanship right in my own backyard.
